AORA announces Victorian industry award winners

On Tuesday 3 September the organics recycling industry celebrated industry achievements over the past year in the state of Victoria. The event was well attended by over 70 representatives from organics processors, to industry suppliers, state and local government organisations.

Ms. Sarah Connolly. MP, member of the Legislative Assembly highlighted the importance of the sector and the support the government is providing to the organics recycling industry in Victoria.

Frank Harney, Chair of the Victoria branch of the Australian Organics Recycling Association said: “it is pleasing to see so many companies and organisations performing so well and leading the way, at a time when food waste and the waste sector overall is such a hot topic.”

Winner of the 2019 Outstanding Contribution to Industry Development Award is Declan McDonald – SESL Australia.  https://sesl.com.au/

Declan has provided passionate and practical advocacy for soil health using all types of recycled organics for many years and has had an outstanding contribution to the industry.

Winner of the 2019 Local Government Initiative in Collection/Processing/Marketing Award is Bass Coast Shire Council.  https://www.basscoast.vic.gov.au/

Bass Coast Shire Council were early implementers of FOGO system, leading the way in Victoria.  Council have a proven record of diversion from landfill, which has subsequently encouraged other Councils to follow their lead.

Winner of the 2019 Compost User demonstrating Innovation and advocacy in Agricultural Markets Award  is Simon Falkiner. 

Simon is pioneering the way with new farming practices of sub-soil amelioration through his own use, as well as trials for others.

Winner of the 2019 Compost User demonstrating innovation and advocacy in Amenity Market Award is Hume City Council.  https://www.hume.vic.gov.au/

Hume City Council are using specially blended recycled organics, including compost, on the soils of Anzac Park to promote strong, rapid growth of vegetation.
