Carbon finance opportunities for the organics recycling industry

Friday 30 April 11am (AEST)

Throughout 2020 a chorus of countries, states, councils, and industries committed to reduce their emissions to net zero before 2050, in line with the Paris Agreement.

Solid Waste emissions account for 1.7% of Australia’s total CO2-e emissions; methane from organics landfills makes up 97% of these emissions, with the rest from organics processing and incineration.

This is a major challenge and opportunity for our industry. For our sector to decarbonise we will need to reduce landfill emissions and increase emissions capture, reduce organic waste to landfill, and significantly increase the efficient recycling of organics waste streams.

The Clean Energy Regulator supports organics diversion from landfill through the Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs) under the Source Separated Organics Waste (SSOW) method. ACCUs can be sold as offsets - a revenue opportunity which has been underutilised across our industry.

Corporate Carbon is the second largest supplier and trader of ACCUs in Australia and has supported our industry's efforts for over a decade.

In this webinar, Julien will provide an overview of the benefits and propose innovative ways for AORA members to participate and receive the benefits of doing so.
